In the coming months Professor Briody of Five Towns College will be hosting free guitar clinics. Professor Briody is a well-respected musician and teacher in the New York area. He started guitar at age 10, played in many Long Island bands, and has ended up having performed and recorded with many world-class musicians. His nationally-released commercial jazz CD was selected to the Grammy ballot for best pop instrumental album.
In addition to talking about his upcoming book, Steve will be discussing, demonstrating, and taking questions about the following topics:
- Technique
- Lead guitar soloing for Rock, Blues, and Jazz
- Developing your musical ear
- How to practice correctly
- Demonstrating tips on how to imitate classic rock and blues styles such as
Eric Clapton,
Jimi Hendrix,
Led Zeppelin,
Lynyrd Skynyrd,
Stevie Ray Vaughan,
AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Nirvana,
Guns n' Roses,
Maroon 5,
Red Hot Chili Peppers,
and John Mayer
Steve enjoys speaking to students about the importance of playing with other musicians and also learning the guitar styles of the all-time greats. “I definitely remember those days of playing in talent shows in middle school and high school. My favorite blues guitarists were (and still are) Clapton, B.B. King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I also listened to classic rock such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, Hendrix, and Santana.
Professor Steve Briody performed April 19 at Five Towns College with fellow
musicians on drums and bass providing tips and information for players
ranging from beginner to experienced guitarists. Professor Briody showcased
different styles of playing ranging from blues to funk to rock. During the
clinic, two audience members sat in with the band and each were awarded a
KORG tuner for their participation! We want to thank KORG for donating the
tuners and for their support of Five Towns College. To learn more about
